If you are thinking about a new lawn in Atlantic County, the first question is almost always the same. What will it cost? This guide gives you our real numbers, explains where the money goes, and shows what can move your price.
Our price in one paragraph
Most installs run $2.00 to $5.00 per square foot. Our standard rate is $2.85 per square foot for an average yard. Large, open properties come in lower, and rocks or gravel to remove push it higher. Every job has a $2,000 project minimum, and a 30% deposit holds your install date. If your lawn is bigger than about 1,500 square feet, plan on a sprinkler system too. A new zoned system usually runs $2,850 to $3,950.
What you get for $2.85 a square foot
People are often surprised that the grass is only a small slice of the bill. Most of the cost is the work that keeps the grass alive in sandy ground. A standard install includes:
- Tear-out. We remove the old lawn and weeds and haul them away.
- A real soil bed. Composted topsoil, aged for 12 months, goes over the sand.
- Lime and starter fertilizer. Lime corrects sour soil. Starter fertilizer helps new roots get going.
- Our own sod. A tall fescue blend grown nine months on our farm in Tabernacle and cut the morning of your job.
- Big net-free rolls, rolled flat. A 300 lb roller presses the sod onto the soil so there are no air pockets.
- 30 days of aftercare. We return for the first cut and the second feeding. Any piece that fails to root is replaced free.
When you compare quotes, ask if each of these steps is in the price. A low number often skips the soil work, and that is the part that matters most on sand.
Sample prices by lawn size
To get a rough number, multiply your square feet by $2.85.
| Lawn size | Price at $2.85 |
|---|---|
| 800 sq ft | $2,280 |
| 1,200 sq ft | $3,420 |
| 2,000 sq ft | $5,700 |
| 3,000 sq ft | $8,550 |
| 5,000 sq ft | $14,250 |

Island lots versus inland yards
Atlantic County has a wide mix of properties, and the mix shapes the bill.
On the islands, lots in Ventnor, Margate and Longport tend to be small. A narrow side strip or a short front lawn can fall under the $2,000 minimum. In that case the price is $2,000. The crew, the truck and the fresh sod cost about the same to send for a small yard.
Out in the mainland and Pinelands towns, the picture flips. Homes in Galloway, Egg Harbor Township, Hammonton and Mays Landing often sit on bigger lots. A big open lawn lets the crew move fast, which is why large properties can come in under the standard rate. Those jobs are priced one by one.
What can raise the price
A few things add time and cost:
- Stone, gravel or old pavers that must come out before soil can go down.
- Steep grades that need extra shaping so water drains away from the house.
- Tight access, like a long carry from the street to a backyard.
We point these out before you book. The price you sign is the price you pay.
Why bigger lawns need sprinklers
New sod has very short roots for the first few weeks. It needs steady water across every square foot. Atlantic County sand, on the islands and in the pines, drains in minutes. A hose can handle a small patch. It cannot keep a large lawn damp through a hot spell.
That is why lawns over about 1,500 square feet go in with an irrigation system, or after we confirm the system you have works and reaches the whole yard. You can see what goes into the price on our sprinkler system cost page.
We only lay sod
We do not sell seeding. Seed is cheaper to buy, but on dry, sandy ground it struggles to sprout, wind and storms can move it, and bare spots are common. Sod gives you a finished lawn the day it goes down.
