Atlantic County · Grown by us, laid by us

From our field
to your front yard.

Every roll Atlantic County Sod lays spends nine months growing on our own farm in Tabernacle, NJ. On the morning of your install we cut it fresh and load the truck.

One blend, picked for sandy ground.

We grow a single tall fescue blend. It has the tough, drought-ready roots of fescue and a deep green color. It suits the sand you find from the bay to the pines.

Roots that go looking for water — they reach four to six inches down and ride out dry August weeks
Fine with a sea breeze — salt spray on a Brigantine or Longport lot does not set it back
At home in light soil — it already grows in fast-draining sand on our farm
Holds a rich green — thick turf that keeps its color deep into fall
Tough under bare feet — cookouts, kids, lawn games and the family dog
Nothing to snag the mower — we harvest without netting, so no plastic is left in the lawn

A short ride through the pines.

Tabernacle sits in the Pinelands, so the drive to Atlantic County stays inside the same pine country. The truck heads to the islands at Brigantine, Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate or Longport, or to mainland yards in Absecon, Galloway, Egg Harbor Township, Somers Point, Hammonton or Mays Landing. Sod cut that morning lands with plenty of life left in it.

01

Grown the full nine months

Each field is watered, fed and mowed until the turf is thick and the roots are strong. We do not rush a field to fill a calendar.

02

Cut for your date

Sod starts to lose freshness once it leaves the ground. We cut your rolls the morning of your job and drive them straight down.

03

In the ground that day

On a full install the crew lays the rolls the day they arrive. Delivery-only orders reach you fresh so your own crew can lay them.

Two ways to get our sod.

Laying it yourself? Read this first.

Our growers give every do-it-yourself buyer the same advice. Follow it and your new lawn has a strong start.

Get the ground ready before the truck comes — pull the old grass and rake it smooth. For each 1,000 sq ft, mix in about 30 lbs of pulverized lime and close to 10 lbs of starter fertilizer high in nitrogen
Water early in the day — shoot for about ¾ inch each time. A tuna can set on the grass shows you how much fell. Once it roots, water every 2 or 3 days
Let it grow before the first cut — keep the mower high for 2 to 3 weeks, and only mow once a corner will not pull up
Stop grubs before they start — treat in spring and again in September so they cannot eat the roots
Feed it in the fall — a September feeding builds roots now and a thicker lawn next spring
